In December 2011, Bangs Boutique was contracted to strip and rebuild the interior of this iconic St Kilda venue of yesteryear. The task involved gutting the main room, including most of the central bar structure and the back wall where the original kitchen extended. Stripping the tired “Greasy Joes” interior was essential and the room was taken back to bare walls and stripped back hardwood floors.  Also added was an entirely new step up floor, dressed with reclaimed Tasmanian oak that now leads to the new kitchen pass. Half the bar structure was rebuilt and a reclaimed solid hardwood bar top was custom made on site to wrap around the entire central bar. Banquets were redesigned and re-upholstered and the original hardwood tables were revamped and reintroduced.

Bangs Boutique bespoke industrial furniture was then installed – including a huge steel bottle storage unit above the bar, a 16 seater solid bar height table and an 8 seater hardwood dining table. These were all custom made for the venue, bringing an industrial feel to the new look dining hall in the heart of St Kilda.

The aesthetic of a minimal, stripped back fresh new bar was accomplished in just 19 days and the venue reopened – clean, modern and stylish.
